Pamela Johnson is a registered British Wheel of Yoga Teacher.
I started practising Yoga in 1999 after feeling the pressure of stress in the workplace. It started with a simple relaxation class moved on to Ashtanga yoga which I did for some years, and I now practice Hatha yoga which I teach.
There are many different styles and classes types, find a style that you warm to and stick with it. It is all 'yoga'.
I started teaching training in February 2009. Three years & 500 hours of study later I completed my BWY Teaching Diploma, qualification in November 2011.
Since completing my diploma I have carried out further training for core strength yoga. This is an ongoing personal journey as well as providing an enhanced knowledge of the inner strength. I don't teach a specific class for this however I drip lots of the core work into my regular classes. Be prepared to stick your tongue out and roar like a lion!
Important elements that I teach are keeping the core strong, creating space in the joints but most important is not getting hung up on how you look in a posture and comparing to a text book or magazine cover. The body should feel light and strong and you should certainly be able to continue breathing! We are evolving all the time and I encourage my students to explore what is going on in their body to dissolve tension. I cannot perform every posture and I don't need to. We start from where we are, and through observation of the self, we can watch the self grow.
I am particularity interested in mediation techniques and find the simplest of meditations often the most effective - why complicate things?
I hold the NSPCC Keeping Children Safe in Sport, which entitles under 18's to attend my adult classes, provided they attend with a parent/guardian. Please contact me if you have a young person interested in attending. Renewed March 2017 for 3 years.
I attend a regular class each week for me, I do lots of personal practice at home. I attend the BWY annual congress, which provides lots of inspirational yoga classes and intensives.
I have now completed a new course with CHEK Europe to become a Level 1 Holistic Lifestyle Coach. I intend then to run courses and 121 sessions based around this. This course will enhance what I already know about lifestyle and give it structure. A Holistic lifestyle coach looks at the whole body and mind. Its not personal training - its lifestyle changing....... its a long term commitment to make permanent changes in your life...... ask me about it
My part-time job as a yoga teacher is a pleasure. My students are the real teachers!
Along my journey to become a teacher I have been supported by my husband and two beautiful girls. They have all helped me greatly with my quest to become a yoga teacher and continue to do so as I meet new people and read books which inspires my practice.
Find me on youtube for some meditations and guided relaxations
the learning never stops.................looking forward to exploring in 2018
